Histoire d'une revanche impitoyable du vent et du sable sur les excès de l'homme, histoire d'une réhabilitation naturelle d'un site d'où toute vie commençait à s'éteindre, les arbres de Nida écrivent sur des siècles l'identité de l'isthme de Courlande. Un sens de l'ordre et de l'alignement qui contrevient à l'idée germanique de la forêt romantique y surprend le voyageur. L'artificialité y est sensible même si parfois s'y substituent des enchevêtrements verdoyants qui sont comme l'expression lyrique d'une émancipation de la nature. Trop verts, trop beaux, les arbres de Nida opposent leur majesté à la folle rage du sable. Dans leur silhouette hautaine se lit l'histoire tourmentée d'une langue de dune aux confins de la Lituanie.

The story of the reenge of wind and sand against the excesses of man, the history of a rehabilitation of a place where all life began to disappear.
For centuries the trees of Nida identified the isthmus of Courland, here, a sense of order and alignment that goes against the Germanic idea of the romantic forest that surprises the traveler.
One can sense its artificial nature, even if sometimes the tangled, green labyrinth is like a lyric expression of the emancipation of nature. Too green, too beautiful, born in the mind of a 17th century scientist after an ecological disaster, the trees of Nida protect their majesty against the blind rage of the whirling sands. In their haunted silhouette, one can read the tormented history of this stretch of dunes in the confines of Lithuania.
